Welcome! My name is Sara and I provide online counselling at Seahorse. I have Master’s in Counselling and Psychology and am a Certified Canadian Counsellor. My background as an experienced educator, and my daily interactions with students as a teacher, have given me a deep and rich experiences. I always wanted my students to be the best they can be, and I understand their goals of self-improvement. As a professional counsellor, my hope is to recognize and cultivate potential in others. I believe that all people aspire to be the best person they can be, and it is experiencing obstacles in life that help us learn and develop into our fullest selves. Philip works with individual adults experiencing a wide range of problems such as trauma, phobias, anxiety, chronic pain, and depression. He works together with clients to explore and progressively release the constraints that limit our natural capacity for greater inner balance. This allows you to become less reactive to the inevitable stresses of life.

He often works using the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. He has completed the level 3 training and understands the benefits of this non-pathologizing form of therapy. From an IFS perspective, all our difficulties are there for a good reason even when that seems highly unlikely!

He is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), another evidence based treatment for a wide range of issues including trauma. He also uses mindfulness techniques, which can be a great first step towards healing and are very compatible with IFS. Philip is also informed by a number of other evidence based psychological theories and models such as attachment theory, somatic therapies, and humanistic counselling.

Philip is available exclusively through video or phone calls for afternoon and evening sessions only as he lives in Hong Kong, which has quite a big time difference from BC.

My name is Parminder and I worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) for the last nine years. While working with patients, I realized that a stable mental and emotional state is the key to an individual’s overall well-being. After years of service as an MLT, I became interested in the counselling profession to aid individuals who suffer from mental health issues. I was born and brought up in India and now resides in 150 Mile House, BC, with my spouse and teenage son. Besides English, I am fluent in speaking Hindi and Punjabi, which I hope would provide counselling opportunities for individuals from these communities.

I am excited to begin my practicum for the Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology at Seahorse because this would provide the opportunity to learn from other counsellors and train in various counselling modalities. My approach with clients involves collaboration and listening to their issues empathically, genuinely, and without judgment. I am looking forward to providing counselling services to individuals, couples, children over 12 years old, and families at Seahorse and hope to help anyone who suffers from mental health challenges in their lives.

So much of what causes stress and heartache today seems universal: people being angry or disappointed in themselves. Feeling anxious, rudderless or downright blahhh. Being overwhelmed or enraged at the system they’re in—then feeling stuck. Aching for loved ones to step up and do what’s right—whether that’s their partner sharing the workload fairly or their teens getting off their phones.

I get it because I’ve lived it.

People tend to seek me out because I’m clear-headed, sincere and deeply hopeful. I start by having people share a bit of their story and current concerns, and go from there. I focus on what feels helpful for you — sometimes that’s having a safe sounding board, other times that’s having a co-problem solver with tools and strategies right beside you.

Sometimes we’ll focus on emotions—unpacking and feeling them. Other times we’ll turn our attention to motion by looking at taking tiny steps toward a life you’d prefer. The work we do will feel supportive–always. It might even feel energizing or liberating. And when it’s tricky and tough, I’ll help you navigate it. (And, as odd as it sounds, we might even end up having a few laughs as we go.)

My truest passion is in helping people sort through relationships and all their messy, complex moments. This includes partnership challenges, working with folks going through separation or divorce, and helping people navigate conflict or estrangements with friends or family. I draw on an extensive career in communications, as well as my own experience as a wife, parent, stepparent, stepchild, and fellow vulnerable human. I’ve also picked up invaluable insights by completing the Family Mediation program at the Justice Institute of BC and training as a Collaborative Divorce Coach.

I’m currently seeing individuals (teens to seniors), as well as couples and families.

Our work together will use a few different trauma-informed lenses:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy — examining how thoughts tie into your feelings and choices

Emotion Focused Therapy — exploring your early attachments, and how emotions show up in your life and body

Internal Family Systems — honouring the ways different parts of you have carried/adapted to past difficulties and seeing what new strategies could await

Narrative Therapy — unpacking the stories you tell about your life, and considering writing and living a whole new story by aligning with values that feel right to you

Systems, Feminist & Queer Theories — recognizing that our experiences don’t exist in a power vacuum, and that social, cultural and socio-economic realities affect us…a lot

If you’re keen to meet online with someone empathetic who throws in the occasional sports metaphor or TV reference for good measure, let’s talk. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me walking my ding-dong of a dog, hanging with my teenager and husband, or kiteboarding and skiing with some pals.

Hi, I’m Emily. The experience of soul-seeking and wanting change in life is a common human experience. Sometimes this can mean we need support from someone else. We live in a world where connection has become less frequent or has less depth, and we may feel alone in our struggles. In my experience, we may struggle to find out why we are the way we are. I am here to support you in finding your way, whatever that looks like.

I believe in supporting people where they are at and believing in the ability of humans to grow and change through adversity. My goal as a counsellor is to help you find healing through self-discovery and building healthy coping skills. I am here to meet you where you are at and work together to create goals that will address your concerns or make changes that will help you to live the life you want to live.

I have worked with numerous populations, and currently am happy to work with pre-teens, teens, young adults, adults, and older adults who experience a variety of concerns. This includes a background in mental health and addictions, eating disorders, and codependency. I work from a strengths-based lens in order to help relieve stress, shame, guilt, grief, anxiety, depression and burnout.

I offer a refuge for anyone who desires change by using an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens. I will walk beside you and support you in finding healing by exploring Schema Therapy, Somatic or body-based nervous system healing, restorative attachment therapy, Family Systems or intergenerational patterns, and Emotion-focused therapy.
